Question 202764: VERY URGENT. Please help me. :)
Jodi drove her car 20.0 km due to north before making a right turn and going 100 km due to east at which point she made an undetermined displacement, she ended up 85.0 km away from her when she started at a direction of 41 degrees relative to the x-axis at her point of origin. What was the 3rd displacement?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
on a one kilometer x-y grid, the position after the 2nd displacement is (100,20)

for an 85 km radius at an angle of 41º
the x-displacement is 85 * cos(41º) or 64.2 km (approx)
the y-displacement is 85 * sin(41º) or 55.8 km (approx)

so the 3rd displacement is 35.8 km west and 35.8 km north or 50.6 km north-west

41 degrees
because 41 to the x axis is adjacent to 49 of the triangle.
since the angles of a triangle total 180, 90+41+49=180
