You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a 3 inch border adds 6 inches to the length and the width
area is length times width

your first equation is fine ___ L = w + 4

the 2nd equation ___ (L + 6)(w + 6) = 165

substituting ___ (w + 4 + 6)(w + 6) = 165 ___ (w + 10)(w + 6) = 165

expanding ___ w^2 + 16w + 60 = 165 ___ w^2 + 16w - 105 = 0

factoring ___ (w + 21)(w - 5) = 0 ___ so, w = 5

substituting ___ L = 5 + 4 ___ L = 9
