: Hi! After two hours of trying to figure out this problem, I turn to you for help. Can you please see if you can help me? I'd really appreciate it.
Instructions: Factor the polynomial completely using substitution method.
( 2w – 3 )² - 2 (2w – 3 ) - 15 This is as far as I got.
Let a = 2w - 3
Factors of -15 are -3, 5 and -5, 3. So
(a² - 2a - 15
(a + 3 ) ( a - 5 )
a² + 3a + - 5a - 15
a² - 2a - 15
Replace a with 2w - 3 and you have ( 2w - 3 + 3 ) ( 2w - 3 - 5)
Now I am lost! I am ending up with 4w² and I don't want that! And the rest, I just can't figure out. If you can help, that would be super and I would be grateful. Thanks! This question is from textbook Algebra for college students
