You can put this solution on YOUR website!
500+2x=800+x
x=300 units
-----------------
500+2(300)=800+300

Answer by josmiceli(19441) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = number of plates manufactured
when cost is the same using either machine.
500+%2B+2x+=+800+%2B+1%2Ax
x+=+800+-+500
x+=+300
If 300 plates are made, the cost is the same using
either machine
check:
If I let C = cost of making x plates,
I can graph C+=+2x+%2B+500
and C+=+x+%2B+800
+graph%28+400%2C+400%2C+-100%2C+400%2C+-100%2C+1500%2C+2x+%2B+500%2C+x+%2B+800%29+
As you see, the lines cross at x+=+300 and
the cost is 1100
