Question 201125: Can someone please help me with these two statements are they true of false
1. Some rational numbers are irrational.
2. The absolute value of any nonzero number is an irrational number. Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1. False. Any number that is rational is NEVER irrational (and vice versa). Why? The definition of "irrational" simply means "not rational". So the two sets of numbers are mutually exclusive (ie they have nothing in common).
2. False. The absolute value of any irrational number is irrational, but the absolute value of an integer is an integer and the absolute value of a rational number is rational (which are both not irrational). So if you change the "any nonzero number" to "any irrational number", then it would be true.
