an avid hiker decides to climb K2,one of the worlds tallest mountains.From her her base camp at the foot of the mountain, she measures an angle of elevation of 30 degrees. Estimates of the mountains height, from its base, are 23,050 feet. How far is it from the hiker to the top of K2?

The short leg of a 30°-60°-90° triangle is one-half the measure of the hypotenuse. Or, in this case, the hypotenuse is twice the measure of the short leg. By the way, the answer to this question is probably more meaningful if expressed in miles. Just divide feet by 5280 to get miles.
