1.A survey of a group of people produced the following results: there were 35 people with brown eyes and 24 people with blonde hair. If 14 people had both brown eyes and blonde hair and 27 people had neither, how many people were interviewed?

First, draw a big circle that represents ALL the
people interviewed. Inside that cirle are two
smaller circles which have an overlap.
The smaller circles are:
(1) Everyone with brown eyes
(2) Everyone with blonde hair
The overlap is everyone with brown eyes and blonde hair
If I add (1) and (2), I get
, but by doing this, I have added the
intersection between them twice, so I'll subtract it once.
14 people had both brown eyes and blonde hair, so

The people who had neither are all who are outside these
2 circles, but inside the bigger circle surrounding them.
