Question 198283: Please help me. I am trying to solve this problem.

The sales representative tells you they have two floor plans available, but they only have 38 homes available. Write an equation that illustrates the situation. Use x and y to denote floor plan #1 and floor plan #2 respectively. x+y+38
b) The representative tells you that floor plan #1 sells for $175,000 and floor plan #2 sells for $200,000. She also mentions that all the available houses combined are worth $7,200,000. Write an equation that illustrates this situation. Use the same variables you used in part a. 175,000x+200,000y=7,200,000
c) Use elimination to determine how many houses with each floor plan are available. Explain how you arrived at your answer.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Your first part was almost right.
x%2By%2B38--->x%2By=38
All houses (x) and houses (y) make 38 houses.
Second part was perfect
175%2C000x%2B200%2C000y=7%2C200%2C000
But lets get rid of the huge parts
175x%2B200y=7200
Solve.
Substitution
x%2By=38--->x=38-y
175%2838-y%29%2B200y=7200
6650-175y%2B200y=7200
25y=550
y=22
Resubstitute
175x%2B200%2822%29=7200
175x%2B4400=7200
175x=2800
x=16
Check
22%2B16=38
38=38
Done
