difference of these numbers=x-y
according to the problem
sum of these numbers=108
x+y=108
difference of these numbers=24
x-y=24
x-y=24
x=24+y
substitute this equation in x+y=108
24+y+y=108
24+2y=108
subtract 24 on both sides
24+2y-24=108-24
2y=84
dividing by 2 on both sides
2y/2=84/2
y=42
substitute this value in x-y=24
x-42=24
adding 42 on both sides
x-42+42=24+42
x=66
the numbers are 42 and 66
verification:
x+y=66+42=108
x-y=66-42=24
