Question 196806: Can you have a negative correlation coefficient for a positive variable in an index.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Can you have a negative correlation coefficient for a positive variable in an index.
That is:Can a data set produce a negative correlation with variable x in a index (x * y * x)?
--------------------
If by "correlation coefficient" you mean "r", which is the
measure of linear correlation, the value of "r" can vary
from -1 to +1. Positive values of "r" indicate that y increases
as x increases. Negative values of "r" indicate tha y decreases
as x increases.
I am not sure what you mean by "a positive variable in an index".
