Question 196768: how do you factor an equation like this: x^3+3x^2+3x-9?
Answer by RAY100(1637) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! this technique is called grouping
.
x^3 +3x^2 +3x +9
.
x^2 ( x+3) + 3 (x+3)
.
(x^2 +3) * (x+3),,,,,,sometimes hard to see this step, like ab +cb = b(a +c)
.
(x^2 +3) (x+3)
.
checks with x=1, original = answer = 16
.
IF problem really does have a "-9", check for another (-) sign
.
if not , X^3 +3(x^2 +x -3)
.
Use quadratic eqn
.
x^3 +3 ( x-1.3) (x+2.3)
.
