You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A woman buys three board games for $107.10, including tax. If each board game cost $34, what was the sales tax rate?
.
Let x = tax rate
then
3(34) + 3(34)x = 107.10
3(34)(1 + x) = 107.10
102(1+x) = 107.10
(1+x) = 107.10/102
(1+x) = 1.05
x = .05 (sales tax rate)
Or, in terms of percent
x = 5%
