Since 6=2*3, 6 is a common denominator of 6 and 3. So, 5 2/3=(5*6)/6+2*2/2*3=
30/6+4/6=34/6, and 2 1/6=(2*6)/6+1/6=13/6. Now we add 34/6+13/6=47/6.
