You can put this solution on YOUR website! Trains A+B are traveling in the same direction on parallel tracks. Train A is traveling at 60 miles an hour and train B is traveling at 64 miles an hour. Train A passes a station at 8:25 am. If Train B passes the same station at 8:55 am,at what time will train B catch up to train A?
---------------------------
Train A DATA:
rate = 60 mph ; time = x hrs ; distance = rt = 60x miles
---------------------------
Train B DATA:
rate = 64 mph: time = (x-(1/2)) hr ; distance = rt = 64(x-(1/2))
-------------------------------------
Equation:
distance A = distance B
60x = 64(x-(1/2))
60x = 64x - 32
-4x = -32
x = 8 hrs (train A time)
----------------
B will catch up to A at 8:25 AM + 8 hr hrs = 4:25 PM
