Question 193017: Begging for Help on these Systems of Linear Equations!!!!?
I have to figure out the following:
1) Determine how many solutions exist
2) Use either elimination or substitution to find the solutions (if any)
3. Graph the two lines, labeling the x-intercepts, y-intercepts, and points of intersections.
Question:
x/3 - y/5 = 4 and 3x/4 + 2y/3 = 6

These are not in the textbook that I am using for my online Math class. The teacher pick these out of their head and we just have to solve them.
Thank you!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1) Determine how many solutions exist
2) Use either elimination or substitution to find the solutions (if any)
3. Graph the two lines, labeling the x-intercepts, y-intercepts, and points of intersections.
Question:
x/3 - y/5 = 4
3x/4 + 2y/3 = 6
Get rid of fractions
5x - 3y = 60 eqn 1
9x + 8y = 72 eqn 2
40x - 24y = 480 eqn 1 times 8
27x + 24y = 216 eqn 2 times 3
--------------- Add
67x = 696
x = 696/67 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
---------------
Sub into eqn 1
5*696/67 - 3y = 60 = 4020/67
-3y = (4020-3480)/67
y = -180/67 yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
