Multiply by 4
10x +x=7+4x
7x=7
x=1
check
5/2 +1/4 =7/4 +1
10/4 +1/4 =7/4 +4/4
11/4 = 11/4 ok
if you really did mean
5/(2x) +1/(4x) =7/4 +x
mult by 4x
10 +1 = 7x +4x^2
0= 4x^2 -7x -11
0= (4x+11) (x-1)
x=(1) and x=(-11/4)
checking x=1
5/2 +1/4 =7/4 +1 ok
checking x=( -11/4)
5/-22/4 +1/-44/4 = 7/4 -11/4
-20/22 -2/22 = -4/4
-22/22 =-4/4 ok
