You can put this solution on YOUR website!
this year, 75 percent of the graduating class of harriet high school had taken at least 8 math courses. of the remaining class members, 60 percent had taken 6 or 7 courses. what percent of the graduating class has taken fewer than 6 math courses?
:
Use a convenient total number of students, 100 students
then
75 students took at least 8 math courses
and
25 students did not, of these 60% took 6 or 7 math courses.
therefore
.6 * 25 = 15 students took 6 or 7 math courses
:
That leaves, 100 - 75 - 15 = 10 students took fewer than 6 math courses
:
Obviously then; 10% of the total class (of 100) took less than 6 math courses
