Question 190335: help me please. The median age at first marriage for females increased from 24.5 year in 1995 tp 25.1 years in 2000. Let 1995 be 5 years and 2000 be 10 years.
a. Find the equatios of the line through (5, 24.5) and (10, 25.1).
b. What do x and y represent in your equation?
c. Interpret the slope of this line.
d. In what year will the median age be 30?
e. Graph the question

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a) okay you got points given in 1995 & 2000 --> (5,24.5) & (10,25.1), where we can find the slope=m via Point Slope Form.
, too small I guess.
Then thru point (5,24.5), via Slope-Intercept Form, with :
---->
, y-Intercept
So our line eqn ----> y=0.12x+23.90 or -0.12x+y=23.90, Std Form
b) x, represent the year, and y, represent the age.
c)As we calculated, the Slope=m being 0.12. Remember .
Meaning, the age will increased by . That is 1 month and =13 days and =4 hours and =48 seconds in 1 year.
d)when y=30, we'll do interpolation.
A=1995=5 ------- D=24.5
B=2000=10 ------ E=25.1
C=x --------------- F=30

---> Cross multiply,

----->
---> That is in year 2050 and = and 10 months
e) It's good to see the graph,
Thank you,
Jojo
