Question 190024: Set up the following scenarios as equations or inequalities and then solve for the desired quantity.
An individual is trying to ensure that he or she earns an A (90%) in a particular college course. Assume all grades thus far are weighted equally. The grades for the course are 88, 92, 83, 76. All that is left is a final exam that counts as two grades. What grade is needed to ensure the student makes an A in the course?

If she wants to get at least 90 as an average, the six grades (the four she already has plus the two she gets for the final) must add up to at least 6 times 90 or 540. So add up the 4 scores she has, subtract that from 540, and divide the result by 2. So if x is the grade on the final, then:
You can do your own arithmetic, but you should find that she can't get there from here.
