You can put this solution on YOUR website!
An individual is trying to ensure that he or she earns an A (90%) in a
particular college course. Assume all grades thus far are weighted equally.
The grades for the course are 88, 92, 83, 76. All that is left is a final exam
that counts as two grades.
What grade is needed to ensure the student makes an A in the course?
:
Let x = final grade
then
2x = the final grade twice
:
Then the total no. of grades = 6
:
%2888+%2B+92+%2B+83+%2B+76+%2B+2x%29%2F6 = 90
%28339+%2B+2x%29%2F6 = 90
:
Multiply both sides by 6
339 + 2x = 6(90)
:
2x = 540 - 339
:
2x = 201
x = 201%2F2
x = 100.5 ~ 100 is the most you can get
:
With 100 the average would be 89.8 which should be rounded up to 90
