: A number n is multiplied by 5/8. The product is subtracted from2/3. The result is 7/12. What is n?
Is the the right way to set this up:
2/3-(n(5/8))=7/12
or this:
(n(5/8))-2/3=7/12
Either way I still can't figure out how to solve the problem. I think something is wrong with my equation. Thank you for your help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is right:
%282%2F3%29+-+n%2A%285%2F8%29+=+7%2F12
3, 8, and 12 all go into 24 evenly, so
multiply both sides by 24
24%2A%28%282%2F3%29+-+n%2A%285%2F8%29%29+=+24%2A%287%2F12%29
24%2A%282%2F3%29+-+24n%2A%285%2F8%29+=+14
16+-+15n+=+14
-15n+=+-2
n+=+2%2F15
check answer:
%282%2F3%29+-+n%2A%285%2F8%29+=+7%2F12
%282%2F3%29+-+%282%2F15%29%2A%285%2F8%29+=+7%2F12
%282%2F3%29+-+%281%2F12%29+=+7%2F12
%288%2F12%29+-+%281%2F12%29+=+7%2F12
7%2F12+=+7%2F12
OK
