You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Bill can paint a room in 8 hours. Working together with Ed, they can paint the room in 6 hours. How long would t take ed to paint the room by himself?
----------------
Ed takes t hours.
Bill paints 1/8 rooms per hour
Ed paints 1/t rooms per hour
ED + Bill paint 1/8 + 1/t rooms per hour
1/8 + 1/t = 1/6
1/t = 1/6 - 1/8 = 4/24 - 3/24
1/t = 1/24
t = 24 hours. Ed is slow.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Bill: 1 Room / 8 hours
Ed: 1 Room / x hours

Both Bill + Ed : 1 Room / 6 hours

Putting into Eqn:

Bill + Ed = Both
1%2F8%2B1%2Fx=1%2F6
1%2Fx=1%2F6-1%2F8=%288-6%29%2F48=2%2F48, cross multiply
2x=48 ---> cross%282%29x%2Fcross%282%29=cross%2848%2924%2Fcross%282%29
highlight%28x=24hrs%29, time for Ed to paint the room

Check,
1%2F8%2B1%2F24=1%2F6
%283%2B1%29%2F24=1%2F6
4%2F24=1%2F6
1%2F6=1%2F6
