Question 188897: Fractional Equation Word Problems:
One member of a gardening team can mow and clean up a lawn in 6 hrs. With both members of the team working, the job can be done in 4 hrs. How long would it take the second member of the team, working alone, to do the job?

I would greatly appreciate some direction on how to solve these kind of problems.
Thank You In Advance!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let 1%2Fx=the amount of work that can be done by second member in an hour
If 1/4 of the work can be done by both in an hour, then :
%281%2F4%29-%281%2Fx%29=%281%2F6%29
Multiply both sides by 12x, we get:
3x-12=2x
3x-2x=12
x=12
Then working alone, the second worker can finish the job in 12 hours.
