I thought there's a missing data here, and that is number of hours he's working to earn $1200.00?

Anyway, based it on 8-hour work time.

Let x = sales
Then it follows,
%2814%2Fcross%28hr%29%29%288%2Across%28hrs%29%29+%2B+0.08%28x%29=+1200.00, EQN 1
112%2B0.08x=1200
0.08x=1200-112=1088
cross%280.08%29x%2Fcross%280.08%29=cross%281088%2913600%2Fcross%280.08%29
x = $13,600.00 The total sales he has to make in 8 hours.

Let's check:
8% of $13,600 = (0.08)(13600)= $1,088.00 Plus
$14.00/hr in 8 hours = (0.14)(8) = $112.00 Equals
