Question 187844: i need help on this problem. i am supposed to solve the equation and check for extraneous solutions. i worked it out but i did not get the right answer. i need help finding the real one.
+3%5E%28x%5E2%29%2B5=6+
3^(x^2)=1
log3(x^2)=log1
x^2log3=log1
x^2=log1/log3
x^2=o
x= square root of 0
x=o

3^(x^2)=1
log3(x^2)=log1
x^2log3=log1
x^2=log1/log3
x^2=0
x= square root of 0
x=0
---------------
check the answer.
(3^(x^2)) + 5 = 6
3^0 + 5 = 6
1 + 5 = 6
6 = 6 Must be right.

If that is the correct equation, then you have the right answer.

Check:

3%5E%28x%5E2%29%2B5=6 Start with the given equation.

3%5E%280%5E2%29%2B5=6 Plug in x=0

3%5E%280%29%2B5=6 Square 0 to get 0

1%2B5=6 Raise 3 to the zeroth power to get 1

6=6 Add. Since the equation is true, this verifies the answer x=0

So either the book has the wrong answer or there's a typo in the problem.
