Question 186747: The A train goes 12mph slower than the E train. The A train travels 230mi in the same time that the E train travels 290mi. Find the speed of each train. Answer by uday1435(57) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let the speed of A train = v mph then speed of E train = v+12 mph
speed = distance/time so time = distance/speed
Applying the given conditions 230/v = 290/(v+12)
Cross multiplying we get
230v + 12(230) = 290v
(290- 230)v = 12(230)
60 v =12(230)
v = 46 mph
So the A train is 46 mph and E Train is 58 mph (46+12 = 58)
