Let x=the original number
Then x+26 is the original number increased by 26=the new number
And (x+26)/3=new number divided by three and we are told this equals 18,so:
(x+26)/3=18 multiply each side by 3
x+26=54 subtract 26 from each side
x+26-26=54-26 collect like terms
x=28------------------------------the original number

18=18
