(2x^2 - x - 2) - (x^2 + 2)
This is just an addition problem that can be simplified by distributing the negative sign throughout the second parentheses:
Rewrite as:
2x^2 - x - 2 - x^2 - 2, and add "like" terms. This will give you:
x^2 - x - 4.
