Let x be the decimal fraction increase, then:

Change to a percentage by moving the decimal point two places to the left, 16.7%

What the problem is asking is:
"What percent of the salary that she is already
getting does her increase in salary equal?
Her increase in salary is
14000+-+12000+=+2000
The fraction of this increase to her original salary is
2000%2F12000+=+1%2F6
How do I express this fraction as a percent?
per cent means per 100, so I need to find x in
1%2F6+=+x%2F100
Multiply both sides by 600
100+=+6x
x+=+16.67
Her percent increase in salary is 16.67%
