: The measure of the angle's supplement is 40 degrees more than 3 times that of its complement. Find the measure of the angle described.
I know the answer is 65 but not sure how to find the answer. This is what I came up with but it doesn't work out correctly.
x=3(180-x)+40
I'd sure appreciate your help. I'm in my 40's and going to college for the first time. Math isn't coming easy but I'm really trying my best. Thanks This question is from textbook Blitzer- Introductory Algebra
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The measure of the angle's supplement is 40 degrees more than 3 times that of its complement. Find the measure of the angle described.
--------------------------------------------------
Let the angle be "x":
Complement is "90-x"
Supplement is "180-x"
-------------------------------
Equation:
180-x = 3(90-x) + 40
180 - x = 270 - 3x + 40
2x = 270 + 40 - 180
2x = 130
x = 65 degrees
