I have literally hundreds of questions. I am submitting only a few for help because I want to do the others on my own. My course does not show proper examples of HOW I can do these, that is why I am here.
Translate the following problems into algebraic equations. It is not required that you solve the equations; simply translate them. Identify the variables, constants, and coefficients in each equation
42 is 40% of what number?
thank you! Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Since "percent" is defined as:
"part"/"whole" * 100 = "percent"
.
In your problem:
42 is 40% of what number?
.
They give you:
"part" = 42
"percent" = 40
.
What you are missing is "whole" -- which is "the number" you are looking for.
.
Assign a variable to things you don't know:
Let N = "the number"
then because:
"part"/"whole" * 100 = "percent"
we then have:
(42/N)100 = 40 (This is your equation)
