: I really hope someone can help me solve this equation for I didn't even know where to begin!
-An international phone call costs $2.00 for the first 3 min, plus $0.30 per minute for each minute or fractional part of a minute after the first 3 min. If x represents the number of minutes of the length of the call after the first 3 min, then 2 + 0.30x represents the cost of the call. If Jorge has $5.60 to spend on a call, what is the maximum total time he can use the phone?
Thanks for the help! This question is from textbook Beginning and Intermediate Algebra
You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
Let x = number of minutes after the first 3 mins
then they already provide:
f(x) = 2 + 0.30x
where f(x) is the cost
Since he only have $5.60 to spend:
5.60 >= 2 + 0.30x
3.60 >= 0.30x
12 minutes >= x
Read:
x has to to "less than or equal" to 12 minutes
Since x is the minutes AFTER the first 3 then
maximum total time <= 12+3
maximum total time <= 15 minutes
