Question 182380: Television Sets. What does it mean to refer to a 20-in TV set or a 25-in TV set? Such units refer to the diagonal of the screen. A 30-in TV set also has a width of 24 inches. What is its height?
I understand how to get the diagonal piece, but can’t figure out the height part. I want to say the height would be 24 inches, as most screens are square, but I think that is wrong. Can you please help?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A 30-in TV set also has a width of 24 inches. What is its height?
.
You need to apply Pythagorean theorem:
h^2 + w^2 = d^2
where
h is height
w is width
d is diagonal
.
Plugging in your numbers:
h^2 + w^2 = d^2
h^2 + 24^2 = 30^2
h^2 + 576 = 900
h^2 = 324
h = 18 inches (height)
