Question 18224: When you are doing absolute value and the problem is a negative when you solve it does it stay negative or do u ignore the negative sign? Thnx.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! If you mean that the answer is the absolute value of a negative number, then you just ignore the negative. Absolute value is the distance away from 0, so it can never be a negative number. Like, the absolute value of 2 is 2, and the absolute value of -2 is still 2. So you would simply ignore the negative sign and the answer would be positive. A bit of extra information: if an equation states that an absolute value is equal to a negative number, then the answer would be no solution since no absolute value can be equal to a negative number.
