Question 182234: You want to spend 40 minutes at the gym on the stairmaster which burns 5 Cal/min. and on the stationary bike that burns 6 Cal/min. You want to burn a total of 225 Calories. How many minutes do you spend on each machine? Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
Let x = minutes on the Stairmaster
then because a total of 40 minutes is spent we have
40-x = minutes on the stationary bike
.
5x + 6(40-x) = 225
5x + 240-6x = 225
240-x = 225
240 = x+225
15 minutes = x (time on the StairMaster)
.
Stationary bike:
40-x = 40-15 = 25 minutes (on the stationary bike)
