You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Start at the origin (where the the x and y axis intersect)

Now move your pencil 1 units to the left
We move 1 units in this direction since the x-coordinate is -1 (its the first number of the pair)





Now go 2 units up
We move 2 units in this direction since the y-coordinate is 2 (its the second number of the pair)




Plot a point where the pencil lands



So here is the point (-1,2)




Now looking at the drawing of the quadrants, you can see that the point (-1,2) is in the second quadrant
