You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Jolene bought three blouses at one price and 2 blouses priced $3 below the others. The total cost was $91.50. Find the prices of the blouses.
.
Let x = amount paid for one of the three blouses
then
x-3 = amount paid for one of the two blouses
.
Our equation:
3x + 2(x-3) = 91.50
3x + 2x - 6 = 91.50
5x - 6 = 91.50
5x = 97.50
x = $19.50 (amount for each of set of three)
.
then,
x-3 = 19.5-3 = $16.50 (amount for each of set of two)
