Question 180824: Solve the Variation Problem
THe force of the wind blowing on a vertical surface varies
jointly as the area of the surface and the square of the velocity.
If a wind blowing at 50 mph exerts a force of 75 pounds on a
surface of 500 ft^2, how much force will a wind of 75 mph place
on a surface of 10 ft^2?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Joint variation is represented by y=kxz (y varies jointly as x and z). So if the force varies jointly as the area and the square of the velocity, we have that
f=kav%5E2
So, if f=75, a=500 and v=50, we have that
75=k%28500%29%2850%5E2%29
75=k%281250000%29%0D%0A%7B%7B%7Bk=0.00006
So, if v=75 and a=10, then
f=0.00006%2810%29%2875%5E2%29
f=3.375
So the force is 3.375 lbs.
