Question 180503: Hello I need help on showing my work for a word problem.
Here is an example
The measures of complimentary angles have a sum of 90 degrees. Angle A and B are complimentary, and their measures have a difference of 20 degrees. What are the measures of the angles.
I know the answers (35, and 55) but don't know how to set up the equations according to the question.
So please help. Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The measures of complimentary angles have a sum of 90 degrees. Angle A and B are complimentary, and their measures have a difference of 20 degrees. What are the measures of the angles.
-----------------------------------------
A + B = 90 degrees
A - B = 20
---------------
Add the equations to get: 2A = 110
A = 55 degrees
-------------------
Substitute into A+B = 90 to solve for B:
55 + B = 90
B = 35 degrees
