Question 180257: 26) If the sides of a dinning room are 21 feet by 18 feet, what is the length of the diagonal?
27) I have 60 inches of width and have 48 inches of height in my entertainment center. I am going HDTV shopping, what is the biggest diagonal TV that I can get?
Thanks a Million
Use the Pythagorean Theorem for both of these problems. The sides of the dining room or the width and height of the space for the TV are sides a and b of a right triangle and you want to find the length of the hypotenuse, c, so:
Just plug in the numbers and do the arithmetic -- use your calculator -- and for the TV question, round DOWN to the nearest inch. If you round up, then the TV you get would be a little bit to big.
