You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let x=Father's age
x-30=Gideon's age
3(x-30)=Mother's age
Now we are told the following:
x=3(x-30)+2 get rid of parens(distributive)
x=3x-90+2 subtract 3x from each side
x-3x=3x-3x-90+2 collect like terms
-2x=-88 divide each side by -2
x=44--------------------------------Father's age
x-30=44-30=14--------------------------------Gideon's age
3*14=42-------------------------------------Mother's age
CK
44=42+2
44=44
Hope this helps---ptaylor
