Question 179504: I am confused. Please help me straighten this out. Find a linear equation in the form P = mt + b (y = mx + b), which gives the population, P, t years from 2010. If I know P = 2000 in 2000 then how do I figure out the rest of the equation? This looks like 2 equations put together. I am very confused.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
I am confused. Please help me straighten this out. Find a linear equation in the form P = mt + b (y = mx + b), which gives the population, P, t years from 2010.
If I know P = 2000 in 2000 then how do I figure out the rest of the equation?
----------------------------
Consider that the year 2000 is the t=0 year; 2000 will be the intercept.
--------------
Equation:
P(t) = m(t+10) + 2000
----
Does this work?
If the year 2010 is t=0, the year 2000 is t=-10
Ten years before 2010 is the year 2000 and when t=-10, P = 2000.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
