You can put this solution on YOUR website! You have an aquarium that is one foot higher than it is wide, and one foot longer than it is high. It holds 6 cubic feet of water. The width of the aquarium is ___ feet, its height is ____ feet, and its length ____ feet.
let width =x
height is 1 ft more=x+1
length is 1 ft more than height=x+1+1=x+2
volume =x(x+1)(x+2)=6
x(x^2+3x+2)=6
x^3+3x^2+2x-6=0
we find tht when we put in the above x=1 ,it is satisfied..thatis
1^3+3*1^2+2*1-6=1+3+2-6=6-6=0
so width=x=1 ft
height =x+1=1+1=2 ft
length=x+2=1+2=3 ft
