You can put this solution on YOUR website!
let the cost of tomatoes and avocado's be t and a respectively
:
8a+3t=8.39.....eq 1
4a+12t=11.44...eq 2
:
lets use elimination method: multiply eq 2 by -2 and add equations together.
:
-2(4a+12t=11.44)=-8a-24t=-22.88.....so lets line this revised eq 2 under eq 1
:
8a+3t=8.39.....eq 1
-8a-24t=-22.88..eq 2 revised
:
now we can easily see that the a term is eliminated because 8a-8a=0. We are left with 3t-24t=8.39-22.88
:
-21t=-14.49

now take t's found value and plug it back into any numbered equation. I choose
eq 1
:
8a+3(.69)=8.39
:
8a+2.07=8.39
:
8a=6.32
