You are correct.

Here's a graph to visually verify the answer:
Graph of the original equation x%2B2y=7 (red) and the parallel line y=%28-1%2F2%29x-13%2F2 (green) through the point .

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+2y=7 Rewrite in the slope-intercept format to identify the slope
2y=-x+7
2/2y=-1/2x+7/2
y=-1/2x+7 Resulting in a slope of -1/2
.
y=mx+b Since the lines are parallel, the slopes of the two lines are equal
The second line has a slope of -1/2 and a point of (-5, -4)
-4=(-1/2)(-5) + b Plug-in the values in order to solvle for the y-intercept
-4=5/2+b Solve for the b-value (also known as the y-intercpet)
-4+(-5/2)=b
-13/2=b
.
Putting it all together gives your answer in which I agree:
y=-1/2x-13/2
.
Check by graphing both lines. They should have the same slope on your calculator.
