What is the equation to solve this problem?
The local fair sells tickets for both children and adults. The price of a child's ticket is 5$ and adult is 8$. 1050 people attended and the fair made $7,350. How many of each type of ticket were sold?
-----------------------
Quantity Equation: c + a = 1050
Value Equation...:5c +8a = 7350
---------------------------------
Rearrange the equations:
5c + 5a = 5*1050
5c + 8a = 7350
-----------------------
Subtract the 1st from the 2nd to solve for "a":
3a = 2100
a = 700 (# of adult tickets sold)
--------------------
Substitute to solve for "c":
c + 700 = 1050
c = 350 (# of child tickets sold)
