Question 177411: I am resubmitting this problem...the previous answer provided by a tutor was incorrect. The answer is 56lb, however, I need help setting up the equation.
Your cousin works at a dog kennel and uses 8lb of dog food to feed four dogs for 3 days. At the same rate, how many pounds of dog food will your cousin need to feed 12 dogs for one week?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The reason it was wrong was because it should have been 8(7) and not 8(12). This has been corrected........thanks
:
we can figure out what it would take to feed 4 dogs for 1 day by dividing
:
8pounds/3days=8/3 of a pound per day to feed 4 dogs
:
now if we were feeding 12 dogs instead of 4 that would be 3 times as much food per day because we are talking about 3 times as many dogs. (8/3)(3)=8pounds per day for 12 dogs.
:
we need to feed these 12 dogs for 7 days so we multiply our 8 pounds per day by the number of days.
:
8(7)=56 pounds of food
