Question 176771: A rectangle has a perimeter of 46 cm. Its length is 2 cm more than twice its width. Find the dimensions of the rectangle.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let's call the width of the rectangle w. Then if the length is 2 cm more than twice the width, the length can be represented by 2w+2. Remembering that perimeter is 2L+2W, we have that
46 = 2(2w+2) + 2w
46 = 4w + 4 + 2w
46 = 6w + 4
42 = 6w
7 = w
So the width of the rectangle is 7 cm, and since the length is 2w+2, we have that the length is 2(7)+2 = 16 cm.
