Question 176453: This is not from a text book. This a work sheet that was created by my teacher. She took the problems from a text book but I don't know which one. The title of the page is Reteaching 7-7 Transforming Formulas. Page number 15 and it is from a Pre-Algebra book copy writed by Prentice-Hall. The directions say to Solve for the indicated variable.
1. y = mx + b, for x
Please, any help on solving this work sheet would be appreciated. I think I may have to use inverse operations to do this but I am not sure where to begin. The whole work sheet doesn't have any numbers. Thank you in advance if you can help. Found 2 solutions by Alan3354, stanbon:Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1. y = mx + b, for x
------------------
You sure make a big deal about it.
y = mx + b
mx = y-b
x = (y-b)/m
It took less time to do it than to read what you wrote about it.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Solve for the indicated variable.
y = mx + b, for x
1st: Isolate the term that contains the "x":
2nd: How? Subtract b fromboth sides of the equation to get:
mx = y - b
3rd: Divide both sides of the equation by "m" to get:
x = (y-b)/m
