Remember that for right triangles we have a theorem that relates the three sides, Pythagorean's Theorem. If the two sides are a,b and the hypotenuse is c, we have that
a%5E2%2Bb%5E2=c%5E2
So if we know the two sides are 5 and 10, we have that
5%5E2%2B10%5E2=c%5E2
25%2B100=c%5E2
125=c%5E2
c=sqrt%28125%29
Notice that 125=25*5, so
sqrt%28125%29=sqrt%2825%2A5%29=sqrt%2825%29sqrt%285%29=5sqrt%285%29
So c=5sqrt%285%29
